As the next deadlines under the European F-Gas Regulation approach, the swimming pool heat pump industry is accelerating its transition towards R290. At POLYTROPIC, this transition began back in 2018. Building on this experience, we are continuing to renew our product ranges to help pool professionals approach 2027 with confidence.
As we highlighted last June in our article on the F-Gas 2027 Regulation, the European F-Gas III Regulation aims to progressively reduce the use of refrigerants with a high Global Warming Potential (GWP).
From 2027, new restrictions will apply to certain categories of heat pumps, accelerating the industry’s shift towards solutions with a lower environmental impact.
In this context, R290 (propane) is emerging as a particularly relevant alternative. This natural refrigerant has a very low Global Warming Potential and offers good thermodynamic properties. However, its use requires specifically designed equipment and appropriate technical expertise.
At POLYTROPIC, R290 is nothing new.
As early as 2018, we introduced our first heat pumps using this refrigerant, with the GREEN290, CARE290 and ELITE290 ranges.
Eight years of experience have enabled us to deepen our expertise in this technology, continuously improve our equipment and gain valuable hands-on experience of its performance in real-world conditions.
The transition to R290 is therefore not simply a response to regulatory requirements, but part of a long-term development strategy initiated several years ago.
Building on this experience, we have undertaken a major renewal of our swimming pool heat pump ranges.
From January 2027, all our new swimming pool heat pump ranges will use R290. This significant step reflects several years of development and anticipation of evolving market requirements.
Beyond the change in refrigerant, this new generation of equipment also introduces improvements in energy efficiency, design and features, to better meet the expectations of pool professionals.
For pool specialists, installers and distributors, regulatory changes should not mean additional complexity.
By anticipating this transition, we are committed to offering equipment that meets evolving market requirements, while maintaining our standards of performance, reliability and quality.
Our technical teams and support services also remain available to assist professionals, from system sizing to equipment monitoring.
Our priority is to anticipate market developments so that our partners can focus on their business with complete confidence.
This commitment is now taking shape through the renewal of our product ranges and the introduction of a new generation of R290 heat pumps.

The European F-Gas III Regulation is progressively introducing stricter restrictions on certain refrigerants with a high Global Warming Potential (GWP). R290 offers an alternative with a very low climate impact.
POLYTROPIC has been marketing R290 swimming pool heat pumps since 2018, starting with the GREEN290, CARE290 and ELITE290 ranges.
All new POLYTROPIC swimming pool heat pump ranges will use R290 from January 2027. Some existing models may continue to be available with other refrigerants, including R32.
